Probably Not Worth Reading

The Day I Opened the Hood and Realized I’d Lost Interest

Somewhere along the way, I lost my interest in cars.

You press the accelerator, and the car speeds up.That alone is enough to make it work. But lately, that simplicity has started to feel… unsatisfying. There’s very little room left for me to truly engage with it.

Ski carving, on the other hand, is different. You set the edge, grip the snow, and build speed. That moment of dragging your hand along the surface—the tension, the precision, the reward.Lose your balance for even a second, and everything falls apart. That instability is exactly what makes it so compelling.

Road cycling feels the same. You move forward while confronting the wind.Maintaining speed demands physical strength.Even riding in a straight line requires more control than it seems.

Neither of these things goes exactly the way you want. And that’s precisely why they’re so interesting.

I find myself drawn now to things that demand something physical—things where your body directly determines the outcome.

The other day, I opened the hood of my Roadster for the first time in a while.I had driven only about 1,000 kilometers over the past six months.Inside, I found fallen leaves quietly piled up.

And in that moment, I realized—I’ve lost interest.

April 4th.A quiet day, just after the ski season came to an end.
